Idling Your Car This Winter Will Not Help Warm Up The Engine
A study done in 2009 reported that Americans believe they should idle their car for at least 5 minutes before driving it when it is 32 degrees or below outside.
However, research shows that it only takes 30 seconds to warm up your engine in the cold; anything else is wasting energy. According to the EPA, your engine will heat up faster if the car is being driven.
Idling your car wastes fuel and gives off greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants.
