I would like to thank Ald. Balcer for his 17 years of service representing the 11th Ward, his 8 years as Commissioner of Veteran’s Affairs, and most of all for his Purple Heart received while serving our country in the U.S. Marine Corps. I also want to thank him for his friendship.
I appreciate Jim’s confidence, and his support of me. I am also thankful for the continued support of our Committeeman John P. Daley. I am humbled and honored as I declare my candidacy for Alderman of the 11th Ward as the endorsed candidate of the Regular Democratic Party. I am asking for your support and help with this campaign. I will be walking every precinct talking to our neighbors about my candidacy and most importantly listening to your concerns.
We can build on the success that Alderman Balcer has had. Working with Chairman Daley, the staff at the Ward office and you, we can make our ward the best in the city: a ward that is safe to raise our families, quality schools to educate our children, job opportunities for careers and advancement, vibrant cultural events, and a first class commercial district to enjoy.
We have a lot to be proud of: building the new Ninth District Deering Station, Palmisano Park, building Taylor-Lauridsen Park and Fieldhouse; new playground equipment at Armour Park, Donovan Park and McGuane Park. We have built libraries in Canaryville and McKinley Park. During the school closure debate, Jim fought to keep all of our schools open, and succeeded. Today we have miles of new streets, sidewalks, sewer and water lines. Alderman Balcer and Commissioner Daley have been investing in our community.
To capitalize on that momentum, I look forward to attracting new businesses that will further invest in our community. I have a strong understanding of development during my professional experience as a real estate lawyer, and 10 years prior to that, working in the development community. I know what it will take to develop our economic future thoughtfully.
Our existing businesses are critical to who we are, and I want to focus on helping them succeed first. I will bring together real estate developers and brokers to obtain ideas of how to best attract commercial businesses to suit experienced and new residents alike. My service to our community:
- Board member of the South Loop Chamber of Commerce - Board member of the Valentine Boys and Girls Club - Board member & past chairman of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence - Board member of the Historic Bungalow Association - Member of the finance council at Nativity of our Lord parish - Board member of the Christian Community Health Center - Former board chair, board member and tutor at Aquinas Literacy Center - Former board member of Bridgeport Catholic Academy School - Precinct Captain of the 11th Ward Democratic Party - Commissioner of the MWRDof Greater Chicago
These experiences along with the guidance of my family, faith, and community have all prepared me for this challenge. I will represent the entire ward Canaryville, Bridgeport, Armour Square, Pilsen, University Village and Taylor Street.
Respectfully, I ask for your help with my campaign. It begins today with circulating petitions and concludes with victory on February 24th, 2015. I look forward to working with everyone in our community to make our ward a continued success.
